Communication satellite technology has been evolving continuously to meet growing demands for high data-rate, video and multimedia content distribution. Traveling-wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) with higher bandwidth, high power and higher efficiency are required for communication applications. In order to meet the requirement, realization of a state-of-the-art Ku-band TWTA is envisaged. This paper presents the complete design and development of a Ku-band TWT delivering output power in excess of 210 W with minimum of 50 dB gain. One prototype TWT with space compatible radiation cooled packaging has been developed and the experimental results are presented. © Anita Publications. All rights reserved.
